What does the ILSi course offer?
This day-long course consists of lectures, skill stations and simulation teaching sessions and teaches the knowledge and skills required to:
- Understand the nature of teaching and learning
- Understand the needs of individual learners
- Understand the awareness of the four domains of learning
- Undertake the various types of teaching sessions on the provider course
These skills can then be used to teach fellow healthcare professionals on ILS and PILS courses.
Pre-course Preparation
Candidates will receive a copy of the Pocket Guide to Teaching for Clinical Instructors, as well as teaching materials and assessment forms at least four weeks prior to the course, which they must read in preparation for the course. They should use the materials to prepare for their allocated teaching session that will take place during the course.
The ILSi Process
ILSi is not open to applications in the same way our other courses are.
Instead, future Instructors are found when they attend as a candidates on an ILS or PILS course delivered by Back to Life or another RCUK course centre. ILSi candidates are selected by course directors who feel the candidate would make an excellent Instructor, and subsequently recommend them as having Instructor potential (IP). IP Candidates then receive a letter inviting them to book a place on the ILSi course.
ILSi must be taken within one year of the date of the provider course.
Assessment and certification:
Continuous assessment occurs throughout the ILSi course. Upon successful completion of the course, Candidates will receive a Resuscitation Council UK ILS Instructor certificate.
Certified Instructors will also receive complementary Associate Membership of Resuscitation Council UK, which provides a variety of benefits.
Newly qualified (IC) Instructors will be supported and assessed on the first two courses they teach, to consolidate what has been learnt on the ILSi course.
Unfortunately, CPD points/hours are not available on the ILSi course.
